K, here are the modified rules as per Tucka's betaing request. New language in red, modified language in green, deleted text struck through. Comments are appreciated.
Accounts & Bios
-No member may have more than one account. You may only start a new account if you have no major black marks, eg Chronic abuse, plagiarism, chronic rule evasion ect, against your name. You can PM me through the forums about name changes but I won’t change your account name every week.
-Be sensitive to personal information passed out in your account bio.
-No OC character’s bios may be posted directly into an account bio, that’s what the Bingo Book is for.
-Please don’t go over the top with art or info in your account bios and please credit art that isn’t yours. Also it get’s annoying having to scroll through eight pages of pictures and quotes.
Submitting Your Story
Titles:
-All stories must have a title. Banned titles include: Untitled, Please Read, ect
-All titles must be of good taste. Language may not exceed PG. As a rule, if you don’t see it in the family section of a video store, it doesn’t belong in the summary. If you feel that limits the agony of your creation, go somewhere else.
-All titles must follow standard conventions. This means that all worlds except articles must be capitalized. Non-alphanumeric characters should be kept to a minimum.
Summaries
-Summaries posted that break the rules may be changed immediately without notice by the moderation team. This is the first part visible to visitors so I wish to keep it tidy and inoffensive. Abide by the rules and we won’t have a problem.
-All summaries must be of good taste. Language may not exceed PG. As a rule, if you don’t see it in the family section of a video store, it doesn’t belong in the summary. Honestly, if you feel you can’t compose a summary without using cursing or gross use of anatomy you can’t call yourself a writer. Please don’t make this a nanny-archive and make me put up a list of restricted language.
-Excluding the banner it may not be anymore than seven lines or two hundred words in length.
Art & Banners:
Art or banners inside the summary may not exceed the dimensions of 200*700 pixels. If you have any trouble please visit the Requests section of TONFA Forums and others will help resize it to meet requirements. It is also an excellent source for those looking for banners.
Category Rules:
-All submissions must be submitted to the correct category and subcategories and abide by their rules. If a category moderator feels it does not belong in their category they may send a note advising a category change and the reasons therefore. If not acted upon in one week the moderator may change it themselves. If you have any questions please contact the moderation team or ask for advice in the writing forums.

Pre-Series: Majority of the story set before Naruto becomes a genin.
Naruto: Majority of series set between Naruto’s graduation as a genin to the end of the series.
Between Series: Majority of story set between the end of Naruto and the start of Naruto Shippuuden.
Naruto Shippuuden: Majority of the story set during the Shippuuden series.
Post Naruto: Majority of story after the canon time frame, either in near or distant future.
Alternate Universe and Crossovers: Where cast of the Naruto Universe are inserted into an alternate universe, eg Inuyasha, High School, Fairytales, ect anything that isn’t the conventional canon. All submission must have basic attempts at spelling, paragraphing and punctuation. No script formats or random humor (please submit to Mad-Fics) allowed.
Crossovers: Naruto characters make direct contact with characters from another fandom
Fusion: Naruto characters placed in another fandom universe, replacing characters from that fandom. (e.g., Naruto takes the place of Cloud Strife in FFVII)
High School Fics: Naruto characters attend normal high school.
Real World: Naruto characters are apart of the real world.
Minor AU: Naruto story that deviates from established canon at some point resulting in different outcomes.
Other: Any AU not of the above
MadFic: Any fic with no real plot, just random humor. Doesn’t require correct spelling, paragraphing or punctuation but it’s a very good idea.
Interviews & Talk Shows: Interview based Madfic
Parody: Humor about the Naruto Fandom
Other: Random humor who’s category can’t be defined.
OC- Fic: Any Naruto fanfic that has the major inclusion of a fan-made character. All submission must have basic spelling, paragraphing and punctuation. No script formats or random humor (please submit to Mad-Fics) allowed.
Fan Ninja Bingo Book: An area to store fanfic information, such as bios, maps, political histories. No stories may submitted to this section. It is a good idea to state a disclaimer of ownership in the AN box and whether these characters are for rent for other authors.
OC Bios: Biographies of non-canon characters
Story Information: Information such as political alliances, maps ect as footnotes to the stories. It may not contain chapters story or author journals.
Essays & Tutorials: An area to submit intelligent essays debating topics about the Naruto Universe and writing tutorial submissions. All submissions must have basic spelling, paragraphing and punctuation.
Writing Tutorials: Tutorials concerned with basic elements of writing.
Characterization Tutorials: Tutorials concerned with well rounded characterisation of canon and OC characters.
Plot Tutorials: Tutorials for developing plot, motif and message in a story.
Character Essays: Evaluation of canon. No rants.
Pairing Essays: Evaluations of various pairings. No rants.
Juvi-fics: I dislike any submission being deleted so if a member hasn’t responded to a moderator’s request in one week for breaking the rules the fic may be moved to this section. Once altered it will be moved back into the mainstream archives. If you are unsure about basic spelling, paragraphing or punctuation please visit the tutorials section. |
Characters:
Extra Characters/Groups Rule no more than eight characters can be selected. If more than eight is highlighted a moderator may delete additional characters. The reason for this is too many people are abusing this by automatically highlighting all the characters to turn up more regularly in the search engines. With the massive additions it would be just ridiculous. If I see authors are using it maturely I’ll change it.

All ratings must be accurate and up to date.

Ratings system is that of the British Board of Film Classification, as the MPAA has taken to sending 'cease and desist' notices to fanfiction archives. For full information of these ratings, please visit the BBFC website. Most of the descriptions were taken from that site.
Universal - It is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child. But a ‘U’ fic should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. ‘U’ fics should be set within a positive moral framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.
[PG] Parental Guidance, or the equivalent thereof - General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for some children. A ‘PG’ fic should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. However, you are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger or more sensitive children.
[12/12A] - No-one younger than 12 may read a ‘12A’ fic. Responsibility for allowing under-12s to view lies with the supervising adult.

Plagiarism = Fail!
Plagiarism of any kind won’t be tolerated. If you take credit for anything that isn’t your own, be it story, idea or art you get one chance to repent. All plagiarised material will be edited with links to the original and your crime listed there. I believe humiliation in this case will be the best prevention so your name will be listed in my little black book and we’ll know you can’t be trusted. If you’re a repeat offender you will be banned from the site.
If you have found a case of plagiarism please report it to either myself, Admin Tucka or a moderator first before contacting the author. All accusations require proof such as dates of posting, prior planning, ect.
Disclaimer:
All stories must contain a disclaimer attributing rights to Masashi Kishimoto as well as any use of ideas or art created by others. Basically if it’s not yours give credit. This includes fanart because I know a lot of you are nicking stuff from Deviantart and the like. If I find the original artist I will inform them and I’ll come down hard. You must provide the artists name and a link. Please make it visible in the Author’s Notes box.
Story:
-Any story that degenerates to a flame war will be removed at the discretion of the administrative staff. There is a possibility of those who flamed being banned from the site.
-No story may be submitted that contains underage (16 and under) sex.
-When submitting to certain categories your story must have a certain level of readability. We understand that no one’s going to be Charles Dickens first time round but we expect some effort in submissions. Moderators must see a valid attempt at minimising spelling, punctuation and paragraphing (referred to on site as the Golden Triad) errors. We will not accept stories that have been typed directly into the submissions box, we can tell. A moderator has the right to request corrections and if no improvement has been seen in one week they may request it to be moved to the Badfic category.
-If you are uncertain about the Golden Triad I recommend venturing into the tutorials section or the Forums to request a BetaReader. For those new to fic writing a BetaReader is a proof reader that corrects typos prior to the story’s submission.
Series:
-All series must contain at least two submissions. The Series function is to be used as an index for stories already on the site, and NOT as a place holder. This is to prevent a clog of discontinued single-fic stories in the series section.
Chapters:
-You may not submit individual chapters as stories. I suspect this is a newbie mistake so if found please direct them back to the rules.
Each chapter must contain at least 700 words.
Fragments, drabbles and ideas
Fragment - a piece of a story that does not necessarily have a beginning, or a middle, or an end. Fragments are always at least a page.
Drabble - a quickly written piece of one hundred words. A double drabble is 200 words, a triple is 300, etc. On TONFA "drabble" is used to describe any fragment between 100 and 600 words.
Idea - ... is NOT one line. An idea is a half fleshed out thought with room for play. This can be one paragraph to X# of pages.
Challenges
Please don't post one-liners in the challenges section. "Gaara and Lee make out" is not a challenge. I will delete any one-line challenges.
So. What is a challenge? A challenge is an idea. Simple as that. A half formed thought or idea, that you've been teasing at for awhile, and really want to see written, but can't seem to write yourself... so you challenge other people to write it. Challenges can contains lists of things that the story has to have (mandatory) and things that would be really cool to see in the story, but aren't necessary (optional).
If you're a fan of Harry Potter fanfiction, you've no doubt heard the term "Severitus". Severitis is and author who made a very interesting challenge, (found here), and there were a lot of responses. Then people started omitting mandatory parts of the challenge, but still kept labelling them as "Severitus". Don't do that. If you're going to answer a challenge, mandatory means mandatory. Don't label something a challenge response if it's not.
If you really want to use a challenge, but don't want to use the whole thin, then you say "based on challenge name-whatever".
Art
-TONFA does allow in story illustrations but TONFA isn’t a webcomic. You must have at least five hundred words written per illustration.
-All art that isn’t your own must be credited with a website and an artist. This rule will be policed.
-NO PORN! It doesn’t matter what the fic is rated or what warning you give, we will not accept explicit art anywhere on the site. It will be deleted immediately with no warning required.
-Size may not exceed 800x600 px.
-All pictures must be either .jpg, .gif or .png
Reviewing
To The Reviewer
As a reviewer you should put as much effort into a review as the author put effort into the story. You aren’t required to praise the story to high heaven but insults or personal assaults won’t be tolerated. Everyone receives reviews so if they aren’t receptive to your reviews it’s a good idea to leave them alone. Neither of you gain by flogging a dead horse. The goal of the reviewer is a well rounded critique complimenting what was good, backing what they didn’t like with examples and advising how it can be done better.
To the Authors
Your goal is to get as many of these well-rounded reviews as possible and put them to use! Understand that opinions vary and that a flame and a critique are two completely different things. I flame will point out what’s ‘wrong’, a critique will point out why it’s ‘wrong’ and hopefully advise how to make it ‘right’. Treat the reviewer who left it with respect even if you don’t agree with it. If they continue to plague you, either ignore them or contact me.

Great! And I suggest to say in the next news maybe that fanarts really need credits, in the Bingo Book there are some fanarts that aren't made by the author and have no credits, even in some story I've seen some Mutsumix fanart but no word about who made the image... I really hate it.
